About Us

ALBERTA TINSLEY-TALABI, FOUNDER OF MACK ALIVE

The Honorable Alberta Tinsley-Talabi, former Detroit City Council Member, State Representative, Wayne County Commissioner and native Detroiter was born August 14, 1954. She served three terms in the Michigan House of Representatives representing District 2. Mrs. Tinsley-Talabi served as a Wayne County Commissioner from 1987 to 1990, and is a former member of the Detroit City Council from 1993 to 2009. In 2010, she was elected to the State House, 3rd District and re-elected in 2012 to the 2nd District. 


Alberta Tinsley-Talabi has received over 100 National and Local awards for leadership in the area of Substance Abuse Prevention and Community Service including: United States Office of Drug Czar Presidential Award, National Council on Alcoholism Detroit and Vicinity 2 time award recipient, Scenic America National Award for Beautification State of Michigan House Resolution, and Partnership For a Drug Free Detroit Leadership Award 2 time recipient.

Artina Hardman has served as the Executive Director of Mack Alive since 2011. Through her dedication and commitment, Mack Alive has grown tremendously. She and Alberta Tinsley-Talabi have helped thousands of residents on the eastside of Detroit. These two women, along with many other volunteers, have made Mack Alive what it is today, "The Miracle at Mack and Fischer."

Food justice is an important part of community justice. We take donations from local businesses to fight hunger! 


Every 2nd SATURDAY   distribution is open to the public. 

SENIOR FOOD every 3rd WEDNESDAY

Mack Alive serves as a community service worksite for 36th District Court and Department of Human Services (DHS). We provide help to the people who need it.

Mack Alive's mission has always been to uplift the community through empowering and providing each individual with the necessary tools to succeed. The mission of Steps to Life blends in so well with what we do and includes the population most likely to be forgotten by society; "our returning citizens."
